Job Katif

JobKatif is the only organization dedicated to providing rehabilitative employment servicesto the families from Gush Katif and Northern Shomron. It is currently the official arm of the Israeli government that is solving the employment problem caused as a direct result of the Disengagement.

There are many questions that one may ask about what we do.

  • Why is there an emphasis on ‘ rehabilitation’?
  • Why are employment services?
  • Why is a non-profit organization offering these services?

Read more about our story below to gain a better understanding of who we are and what we do.

Our Story

Immediately following the Disengagement from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Rimon, a scholar, teacher and community rabbi from Alon Shvut was called to assist the evicted families.

Rav Rimon immediately realized that beyond meeting day-to-day needs while being temporary homeless, these families needed assistance in recovery from emotional trauma and would need to build a new economic structure for their lives. Rav Rimon began gathering volunteers to help evacuees find jobs and a new order for their lives. This work led to the vision of founding of JobKatif.

JobKatif affirms that given the right support, every Gush Katif evacuee can once again be a financially self sufficient, contributing member of Israeli society. In order to assist, every evacuee requesting help is assigned a counselor, many of whom are themselves evacuees. Counselors asssit with everything from finding the emotional fortitute to renew a house and job search, clarify professional goals and necessary skills and training. They sometimes make references to employment or business professionals, who assist evacuees in the highest form of Tzedakah helping people help themselves.

Today, JobKatif is officially recognized by the State of Israel as the most effective agency for finding employment for this population, and in recognition of his success with JobKatif, Rav Rimon was a recipient of the 2008 Presidential Award for Volunteerism

As of July 2011, JobKatif has succeeded to do the following through its programs:

  • Placed more than 2,200 individuals in new jobs
  • Sent 460 people to vocational retraining courses
  • Launched 263 new businesses throughout Israel
