DARCHEI SHALOM, FOUNDED IN 1989 IS A THERAPEUTIC BOARDING SCHOOL FOR 60 BOYS LOCATED IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF JERUSALEM
Darchei Shalom, founded in 1989 is a therapeutic Boarding School for 60 boys located in the outskirts of Jerusalem. Departments of social services throughout the country refer children of Charedi (Ultra-Orthodox) background, aged 13-18. The boys are considered “high risk”, as many have committed sex and property violations. The boarding school is an innovative framework to treat boys from this Israeli sector, serving as a “last frontier”, preventing delinquency and complete marginalization.
Approximately 30% of the boys are placed in the boarding school following a court order. Most of the boys struggle with significantly difficult family situations, educational challenges resulting from neurological disorders such as ADHD, Dyslexia, and other emotional and social problems.
“Darchei Shalom” provides the boys with schooling, a therapeutic team of social workers, psychiatrist and a psychologist. The school employs a variety of therapeutic treatments including animal therapy, art, and music.
